Actually, you don’t need copper oxide, just a a short wire 2-3 mm thick bare copper wire coiled in a plastic tube 20 mm diameter by 100 mm tall and another coil of bare aluminium wire or iron wire inside the copper coil with simply drinkable water will give you 0.3 - 0.5 V per tube. Make 48 of them connect them in series parallel and you got a decent power source where water needs to be replenished from time to time.

A capacitor of 100uF across of battery output just before pulse generator will also improve the performance … additional a voltage doubler or any other mean to raise the power would make really useful for many other applications.
